The last couple of days with Cadigan have been really good. This weekend was warm enough we could go to the park and play. We visited a day school for a possible pre K and we will be visiting the other one that got back to us Thursday. His weight is back up, he was sick with colds for a month and dropped 6lbs, which is awesome for an adult but scary for a 2 year old. Its a fifth of his body weight.

On Saturday Chelsea, Cadigan and I went to Mi Ranchito for dinner. Its a great Mexican food restaurant attached to a auto repair place. We have been a bunch of times and it is always busy; well the one on 95th is the one that is closer to our house is not and for good reason. The staff is not that great at that location, the original location has the best service and the nicest people working there.

Anyway, we got there and there was a 15 min wait so we were in the back playing with Cadigan waiting for our buzzer to go off. When it did go off I told Cadigan that we had to go because we had won and it was our turn to eat. Cadigan then grabbed the buzzer, held it over his head, and screamed "I WON!!!!" and sprinted to the front of the restaurant still screaming "I won!" The waitress was laughing and running in front of Cadigan telling him to follow her. It was great.

I'm writing this because I need to remember things like this instead of all the tantrums. Cadigan is at the age where he is starting to test all his boundaries and has epic meltdowns when he is denied. We are the parents you need to be when this happens. We do not feed his tantrums and we do not give in, however I am learning the limits to my patients and have to remind myself that he is 2 (for a few more weeks) and that this will pass.

Just lost my cool with Cadigan because I feel like ass and he is throwing a fit that involved smacking me in the face. Chelsea put him down for bed after that.

Day Twenty Eight [Jun. 26th, 2013|09:48 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre
We are getting closer to making 30 posts. I know that i actually failed to do it everyday but I have chronicled them like I have, so that counts... right? Lets see we has been going on today.

Oh yeah the supreme court said that the defence of marriage act was unconstitutional and in the next 25 days they will finalize their decision and federal benefits and rights will be given to the couples married legally in states that recognized the marriage. So it is not all cut and dry but it could be the nail in the coffin for this battle.  Also they agreed with the lower court for the Prop 8 issue in California, which says you can not discriminate on marriage as well, but this is legally only in the district of California that the suit was brought but it a good start. I hope it happens sooner, but in 10 years this will hopefully be history.

I'm so confused by this issue. I do not for the life of me understand how this can and has stood for so long. If you argue it as a gender discrimination case, then its a no brainer and the states have a long history of defeating gender discrimination.  Also if you argue that it is wrong because your faith tells you it is then that is the state mandating a religious view onto the people and I thought that was not allowed in the constitution as well.

I wonder if these were similar thoughts about the world around them during all the changes in history?

Day Twenty Seven [Jun. 25th, 2013|11:10 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre
So after last nights awful headache and many hours in the dark and quiet today for the most part was average. My work day was pretty routine on the plus side we reviewed all the work I did for the reovirus genome assembles and it turns out that I have been doing it right so that was a big plus. I also am behind on some testing and need to figure out how to get them done over next week with me being out of the office.

Tonight I actually got to play golf for the first time in two weeks. It wax nice and cool this evening and I hit enough shots well enough to remind me why this game can be fun.

I got home right when Chelsea did and was able to see Cadigan before his bedtime. He is getting so big and talking so much more now he doesn't seem like my kid some times. Its great! I love watching him getting better. Tonight he told me stories most of which I was able to understand. The "terrible twos" must come from frustration of knowing what you want and only being able to communicate in half speak.

After he went down Chelsea and I talked for a bit before getting ready for bed. It was nice to sit an talk even if only for a few minutes. TV has to be the best worst thing ever. It can let you learn and entertain you, but it also just kills time. Sometimes its nice just having it be off.

Well I going to try and get some sleep now.

Good night interwebs.

Sunday, was spent moving and packing my parents up so we could get them into their new house. On one of the first items Dad pullled a muscle in his back and I had to call corkwis to come and help. Which he was awesome enough to help out with; after all the heavy stuff was moved he bailed and went to savage his day. That was most of my day. After that I got home to a frazzled wife and a hyper toddler, played with the toddler to help wear him down a little. Then bath time and dinner for him. After putting him to bed Chelsea and I had our dinner and I went to the store for milk and her breakfast foodstuffs at 10:30pm. Then to bed. Gratefully bed.

Chronicles of Ogre
Yey! I am actually posting on the day I am suppose to, weird. Well the big news today is that Chelsea's little brother and his girlfriend had their baby today.

The rest of the day was Cadigan and I hanging out. We had breakfast, went for walks, played Xbox, suffered tantrums, more walks and swinging, movies, dinner, and more tantrums.

I guess its time for a quick bath and then bed.

Peace peeps.

Day Twenty three [Jun. 22nd, 2013|08:45 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre
Last nights post was derailed by LJ servers not responding.

Friday was a decent day. I didn't feel like running from the building. Lately I feel I am so tired with fighting the same old fights over and over again. I keep hoping that we will move faster than this but we do not. So very frustrating.

They are going to re-purpose two of my labs for production variant bursal production. They were measuring them today and asking what we were giving them so they would have to buy anything for the re-purpose. Our answer was nothing. We are currently using all of the equipment we have. I love the meetings were we talk about how much my division is worth to the company and then going back to the "trenches" and not be allowed to get the equipment we need and then to have them take third of my lab space.

On the great side of things the parts I order on eBay arrived and the control module is for a Jetta not a Beetle but its the same function and hook ups so I installed it anyway. With a little filing of the plastic if fits just fine. It just looks a little weird because now the controls are recessed into the console. It however works like a champ! With everything fixed and functional it feels like a whole new car again.

And that is the recap for Friday.

Day Twenty Two [Jun. 22nd, 2013|08:33 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre
So, I am late by two days with this post due to the fact that I stayed up till 1 in the morning playing Batman Arkham City. Which was pretty much the highlight of Thursday for me. I just did not want to be at work so I left an hour early and everything.

Cardigan had his first DDS appointment Thursday. Chelsea took him and he had a blast. He also came away with no cavities, parents instructed that he needs to floss twice a week due to all of his teeth touching, and a under bite that will most likely need correcting in the future.

That is a good Thursday recap.

Okay, so I know its earlier than I would normally post but I really really do not want to be here today so I am posting now. I dropped my car off at Charlie's yesterday and he called this morning with a complete estimate of repairs for my car  which comes to a little over two grand. Ouch. I know this is why we saved this money however it still blows spending it. The most frustrating part about all of this is the fact that IF I had the tools I could do all the work. Its not overly complicated work. It does however require some basic tools and knowledge. Also I am not saying I would get it done in the same amount of time as Charlie's crew. If fact I think they will have it done tomorrow.

Case in point I need to replace the heater/ac control module since the fan dial broke. Its a $400 part. So that is $400 plus Charlie's markup and time. I just bought a used part and the tool I need to fix it on ebay for $28; they will be here on Friday. With the tool to remove the radio it will take me, a non-mechanic, roughly 20 mins to change out the part.

Do you ever have those days were everything is a bore? I do. I can not decided if it is that everything is boring or if everything has frustrated me in to shutting down so I think everything is boring. Actually I think it is the second one. The programming class is a intro class and I feel I am barely making it. If this was a course for actual credit I would be failing. It most frustrating knows how to do something intuitively but not be able to do them in the machine. I know, I know. Practice, practice, and more practice is how you get better. However don't you ever just want to be good at something. Like really good. One of those people who are gifted with a innate ability to kickass at that one thing.

I would love for that to happen.

However I am me and I am a middle of the pack kind of person apparently.

Oh well to cope with my frustration and not being naturally gifted at something I spent the evening playing Batman Arkhem City.

I am not gifted at that either but its on easy so its not frustrating.

Okay, so I messed up and went to bed without a post for yesterday so today you get two-ish.

Yesterday was a good Friday for not being at work. I was able to finish everything that needed to be done that day pretty early. The urge to take a half day was huge. However I stayed most of the day I left around 4:40 pm and headed home. I got home took care of all the pets, got a bottle for Cadigan ready, and then waited in the driveway for Chels to arrived. She finally pulled up around 6 and I gave Cadigan his bottle then jumped in the car, explaining I didn't care where we went but I wanted to have dinner out. To which Cadigan said "Mancakes?" so we drove to IHOP and had breakfast for dinner. After dinner we played with trains and got ready for bed. Both of us being tired we watched some Daily Show and headed to bed. Happily.

Today, I got to sleep in since Cadigan and Chelsea got to up at 6, seriously kid, I got up at 8 had some coffee with my family before Chelsea went to her thing and I took Cadigan to his grandparents to play while Dad and I put together his new smoker. We had a good time and Cadigan did really well being outside most of the day. Around 1:30 we got home and he was passed out.

While he took his four hour nap he missed out on "My Week with Marilyn", a fairly large storm, and me getting a Xbox 360 for Father's Day! Woot! Right now, Cadigan is wide awake and is watching Netflix cartoons so I'm not sure when I will get to play but it will happen this weekend.

Well that about sums it up interwebs. See you tomorrow.

Today was a good day. Nothing especially exciting about it just a good day. I accomplished things at work and felt like I made progress. At home I mowed the lawn and then Chelsea and I made dinner. Afterward we gave Cadigan a bath, Chelsea put him to sleep and fell asleep herself. It was just a happy day today.

I felt like things went well, smoothly even and stuff got done. It was a wonderful feeling.

Day Fourteen [Jun. 12th, 2013|10:50 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre

I feel so old lately. I mean I know I'm getting older but I just feel rundown all the time. It also doesn't help the fact that I have had a cramp in my calf all day. So maybe in phase two of journalling I start making some goals to better care for myself.

I need to find my scale and get my weight. I do not think I know how much I way, but it has to be up there. I could weigh myself with one of the antigen scales or the freight scale in the warehouse. not because I feel I will not be in the range of our scale but because they would be in kilos and the number would be smaller.  If I go by my last know weight I would be 285lbs which is 100lbs overweight. So you know "pleasantly plump" or if you are a doctor "deadman walkin". On the plus side I would be ~130kg. That sounds so much better.

Its weird I can work all day and when I get home for the first hour, I am exhausted but then I wake back up and I can get going some more. Its just annoying since that first hour is the most busy. Also I think I need to go see my doctor about my blood pressure. I'm getting dizzy and faint after squatting, it only happened every now and then before but lately its everytime. My medication hasn't changed manufactures so I do not know what is going on. Come to think of it, besides being overweight, it is probably the related to me being so damn tired lately.

Things for tomorrow.

Day Thirteen [Jun. 11th, 2013|11:35 pm]
Chronicles of Ogre
[Current Mood |sleepysleepy]

Another day. Today I had a conversation with a headhunter about if I was interested in relocating to Shanghai China to take a Director of Clinic Development. From our conversation it appears that the company would be willing to be flexible on the education requirements my guess is they are having a lot of trouble filling the position in that is in a city you can not breathe in.

Truthfully moving to Shanghai to take a lead role in one of the largest cities in the world would be fun. However it would kill my family as Chelsea is allergic to everything in a country with clean air and Cadigan is allergic to something as well. Also if you think I am being over dramatic here is the twitter feed of a air quality monitoring station that gives out hourly updates to the masses in Shanghai https://twitter.com/cgshanghaiair anything over 50 is bad for people who have allergies.

Right now its

Also played golf tonight, well I am not sure you can call what I do playing golf as so much as flailing at a small white ball. Tonight was brutal and it only made me mad.

However I showered and watched Jon Oliver crush it on the daily show as interim host. This should be fun.

Chronicles of Ogre
[Current Location |bedroom]

[Current Music |air machines]

Ahh.. Monday.

Actually it wasn't bad at all, busy but not bad. I was able to get most of my lab work done for the day. I should have finished all of it but I didn't allocate my time very well and ran over on side projects that shouldn't have been my focus. Taking my car into the shop next Tuesday. I have a nice list of needed repairs; brake pads & rotors, new struts, oil change, fuel filter change, and welding of the support under my chair back together. I talked to Charlie and he will start with the brakes and see how much that will be, I am expecting about $200 for him to do it. Assuming that in the time I waited trying to find the time to change them myself I didn't horribly damage the caliper.

Also the really annoying thing is it cost so much less to do it yourself if you have the tools, if you don't after everything is done you spent the same.  I'm going to start buying the different tools I need for routine maintenance and light repair on each paycheck so when something like this happens again I can actually do it  instead of trying to find a time when I can come over and use my Dad's tools. Its not that he will not let me do it its just every time I went over to do it it started to rain I should have just changed them in the effing rain. Also, my other poor excuse, is what to do with Cadigan when I'm doing said repairs so I have to work with Chelsea's schedule and do all the chores needed on the weekends. Its frustrating. I would have done it this past weekend instead of hanging out with Craig and Sarah but my family is moving so everything is packed.  Which is how I came to Charlie's door again.

Also I want a place to put all my tools, so I'm in the market for a sturdy table/workbench that I can put at the back end of the garage. I need to measure the space and clean it out of all the crap that is in it now so I can put it there. I also have plans for the shed in the back. Mostly demolishing it either building a new one or buying one. At the current cost of lumber I'm not too sure of the cost savings. There is a nice concrete pad there so I wouldn't have to redo the floor, just scrub it clean.

I have so many plans. I need more actions.

I'm sure that is the take away.

Day Eleven - into the second phase of my plan [Jun. 9th, 2013|10:01 pm]

[Current Music |Gioachino Rossini, William Tell Overture:Finale ]

Well, day eleven. Today was good. Cadigan woke us up around 8:30, I think (and yes, most of my post revolve around my child but that has more to do with the fact that he is my biggest project right now). I stay up all last night finishing Eureka season 5. The last season of the show. Its a shame that the show was canceled after 5 seasons, it was always fun. Well everything ends and they got to end it on their terms... mostly.

So after staying up till 230 in the morning I very very groggily followed him out into the living room and started the day. After a nice morning with everyone I skipped town and landed in the Orkwis abode. I hung out with Craig and Sarah for a few hours and came home to see Cadigan's new train table. Which, when we agreed to was 50 bucks for a train table. We figured a train table costs around 100 bucks so this was a good deal. When it arrived it actually turned out to be a table, a lot of track, and 3 more train sets.  Cadigan finally got all the things he never knew he always wanted.

After he had a mental break, some dinner, and a bath. He went without much fuss and Chelsea and I have been watching the Tony awards and doing laundry ever since.

Its been a good day.

Really its been a good weekend, the only thing that I'm sad didn't work out was doing anything with Megan and Patrice. Cadigan was sick Friday night so we couldn't go out with them and Chelsea had plans for all Saturday so we didn't get to join them at the museum.
